A webpal sent me this YouTube link, which reminded me that I was once a belly dancer drop out!

One of my ex-colleague was a professional band drummer, then turned belly dancer. She's a pretty woman. Once she offered to teach us belly dancing during lunch time, one hour per week. She asked me to sign up, so I did it just for the fun of it. There were over 20 ladies in the first lessons, and I believe at the end only about ten left. She was full of life, some said she was crazy, she demonstrated us some seducing moves!

曾 經 有 一 位 美 麗 的 白 人 同 事 ﹐ 未 做 白 領 佳 人 前 曾 是 樂 隊 的 鼓 手 ﹐ 跟 著 當 過 幾 年 肚 皮 舞 女 孃 。 她 見 我 們 對 此 舞 有 興 趣 ﹐ 便 請 纓 在 午 膳 時 間 免 費 授 班 ﹐ 每 周 一 課 ﹐ 每 課 一 小 時 。 她 說 我 一 定 要 捧 場 ﹐ 我 便 貪 玩 答 應 了 。 第 一 堂 至 少 有 廿 多 學 生 ﹐ 最 後 我 想 好 像 剩 下 十 餘 人 。 她 還 示 範 一 些 非 常 誘 人 的 舞 姿 ﹐ 傳 聞 她 與 大 老 闆 有 著 不 尋 常 的 關 係 ﹐ 大 老 闆 可 真 艷 福 不 淺 呢 ﹗

Believe me, it was NOT easy to twist your belly or sway your hip, even in the basic move. Well, being as non-atheletic as I was, I dropped out after three lessons. Just the coordination between foot work and hip movement alone killed me, not to mention making my belly moved!

就 是 基 本 的 扭 腰 功 已 是 非 常 之 難 去 做 得 好 呢 ﹐ 莫 說 要 加 上 腳 步 及 手 勢 。 我 這 個 無 用 的 人 ﹐ 三 堂 後 便 逃 學 去 了 ﹗

Years ago, my Jordanian born colleague was given a bachelor party, belly dancing was the highlight. The dancer was a middle-age middle-eastern woman with heavy face make-up, thick waist and a fat belly, nothing like the one in this YouTube clip. I was puzzled, that was no dancer body...? Well, he told me she had a body of a traditional belly-dancer, as men love to see how the fat belly shook. I could not believe it!

多 年 前 ﹐ 一 位 來 自 約 旦 的 同 事 ﹐ 在 他 的 最 後 黃 老 五 party 請 來 一 位 很 胖 , 面 部 很 多 化 妝 , 很 不 誘 人 的 中 年 肚 皮 舞 孃 ﹐ 她 不 止 腰 粗 ﹐ 肚 腩 還 長 著 很 多 肥 肉 。 我 問 他 怎 麼 請 個 如 此 難 看 的 來 ﹖ 他 出 奇 地 說 她 是 擁 有 著 傳 統 肚 皮 舞 女 孃 應 有 的 理 想 身 材 ﹐ 說 中 東 男 人 愛 看 胖 肚 腩 的 搖 動 。 嘩 ﹐ 真 是 不 講 不 知 啊 ﹗

Our belly dancer is no longer with our company, since the layoff she had went back to be a full-time drummer. As for me, the belly dancer drop-out, I was teased for months afterward!

至 於 我 們 的 美 麗 肚 皮 女 孃 ﹐ 自 三 年 前 被 裁 員 後 ( 大 老 闆 退 了 休 ﹐ 新 上 任 的 是 個 女 性 ) ﹐ 便 轉 行 做 回 老 本 行 -- 樂 隊 鼓 手 。 至 於 我 ﹐ 起 初 被 同 事 們 笑 我 去 學 跳 肚 皮 舞 ﹐ 跟 著 被 他 們 笑 我 做 了 逃 學 生 ﹗
