My friend Chin and his wife visited a village in China at the end of June.

小 奀 子 與 芬 e 艸 在 六 月 尾 隨 朋 友 上 朋 友 的 家 鄉 一 遊 。

It's easy to find the typical China tourist pictures, but the opportunity to see photos of a real living village is very rare, so I requested Chin to take photos for me as soon as I learned that he would be touring the country side. Unfortunatly quite a few photos were unreadable due to a partial malfunction with the camera's memory card!

雖 然 他 朋 友 的 鄉 下 與 我 的 ( 及 他 的 ) 不 同 ﹐ 因 我 從 未 踏 足 過 鄉 下 半 步﹐ 便 央 求 小 奀 子 拿 出 他 那 塵 封 多 年 的 電 子 相 機 為 我 拍 照 。 可 惜 昰 相 機 的 資 料 儲 存 咭 出 了 問 題 ﹐ 很 多 照 片 遺 失 了﹗

To get there, my friends first took a 3.5 hours train ride from Hong Kong to its closest city, Dai Leung, then another 30 minutes of bus ride. The buses did not run frequently, so it's not practical to live there and commute to work in Dai Leung. Before the road and bridge were built (~20 years ago), you could only get to village from Dai Leung via 2-hour ferry service.

南 塱 村 位 於 順 德 縣 內 ﹐先 要 從 港 乘 3.5 小 時 火 車 到 大 良 市 ﹐ 再 由 那 裡 坐 半 小 時 巴 士 才 到 村 口 。大 良 - 南 塱 村 行 車 班 次 很 疏 ﹐ 所 以 想 在 鄉 間 居 住 ﹐ 在 大 良 工 作 是 不 甚 理 想 的 。十 多 廿 年 前 ﹐ 當 車 路 未 建 時 ﹐ 入 大 良 市 是 需 坐 兩 個 多 小 時 的 小 船 。

The village still very ruralized, unlike many other villages in southern China. There're cable TV, cell phone service, and internet access. It's mainly a fish farm community.

這 兒 鄉 味 很 濃 ( 很 多 中 國 南 方 鄉 下 己 經 很 城 市 化 ) ﹐ 那 兒 有 網 上 ﹐ 但 不 普 遍 ﹐ 除 了 魚 塘 居 屋 其 麼 也 沒 有 ﹐ 莫 說 消 遣 場 所 。
